 Namaz Times — Common Questions

What is the difference between Namaz, Salah, Salat and Namaaz? + They all refer to the same Islamic ritual prayer. Salah (صلاة) is the Arabic Quranic term. Namaz (نماز) or Namaaz is the Persian/Urdu word used across South Asia (Pakistan, Bangladesh, India) and Turkey. Salat is an alternative English transliteration of the Arabic. In the UK, USA and Canada, South Asian Muslims use both 'namaz' and 'prayer times' interchangeably.

What are the 5 Namaz times in order? + The 5 daily Namaz in order are: 1. Fajr (Subah) — dawn. 2. Dhuhr (Zuhr) — midday after zawal. 3. Asr — afternoon. 4. Maghrib — immediately after sunset. 5. Isha — night after twilight disappears.

What time is Namaz today? + Namaz times vary every day based on your location and time of year. Select your country and city on this page or from the homepage to find today's accurate prayer times for your city.

 How many rakats is each Namaz? + Fajr: 2 Sunnah + 2 Fard (4 total). Dhuhr: 4 Sunnah + 4 Fard + 2 Sunnah + 2 Nafl (12–14 total). Asr: 4 Sunnah + 4 Fard (8 total). Maghrib: 3 Fard + 2 Sunnah + 2 Nafl (7 total). Isha: 4 Sunnah + 4 Fard + 2 Sunnah + 3 Witr + 2 Nafl (15 total).

Which method is used for Namaz time in Pakistan? + Pakistan uses the Karachi method (University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi) — Fajr angle 18°, Isha angle 18°. This is the standard used by Pakistani mosques and the Government of Pakistan's official prayer times.

Which method is used for Namaz times in the UK? + London uses the London Unified Prayer Timetable (LUPT). Other UK cities on this site use Moonsighting Committee. Open the city page for the citable table. UK Fajr still shifts sharply by season.

Why do Namaz times change every day? + Namaz times are calculated from the position of the sun relative to your location. As the Earth orbits the sun, sunrise, sunset, and the sun's peak position (zawal) change every day. This means Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha all shift slightly each day throughout the year.
