## About Masjid Al-Aqsa (Al-Qibli Mosque)
Masjid Al-Aqsa is the third holiest site in Islam after the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah. The current mosque structure was built by the Umayyad Caliph Al-Walid I in 705 CE, though the compound was first consecrated by Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) when he accepted the keys of Jerusalem in 638 CE. Al-Aqsa is referenced explicitly in the Quran (Surah Al-Isra 17:1) as the destination of the Prophet Muhammad's Night Journey. The mosque has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times, and Saladin (Salah al-Din) restored Muslim rule over Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa in 1187 CE.
