🌙 Ramadan

Ramadan 2027

Quick Answer Ramadan 2027 (1 Ramadan 1448 AH) is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday, 7 February 2027, with the first fast on Monday, 8 February 2027 and Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday, 9 March 2027 — subject to moon sighting. Skip this hub for a city’s daily suhoor and iftar table — open that city’s Ramadan URL. Skip it for a fatwa on who must fast.

 Who this is not for

Not a moon-sighting announcement and not a fatwa on who must fast, pay fidyah, or make qada.
Dates here are expected from the lunar calendar and may move by 1–2 days once a country sights
the crescent. For today’s suhoor and iftar clock, open your city Ramadan timetable.

Desk-reviewed 2026-08-13.
Season dates come from this site’s Hijri events source (Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar; observance is subject to local moon sighting.). City clocks are baked at
build — not live from your phone.

Should you use this hub or a city Ramadan page?

Use this URL for the worldwide season: when Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin and end, how
Tarawih, Zakat al-Fitr, fidyah and kaffarah are usually explained, and links into 280+ city
timetables. It is the wrong tool if you only wanted Maghrib in London tonight — that is
 London’s Ramadan table
(or your own city). It is also the wrong tool if two mosques in your city disagree on the first
fast; follow the mosque you actually pray in.

When do suhoor and iftar fall in Ramadan 2027?

Suhoor ends at Fajr · Iftar begins at Maghrib · times change daily

🌅 Suhoor (Sehri) ends at Fajr time

You must stop eating and drinking when the Fajr adhan begins. It is Sunnah to eat suhoor as late as possible — close to Fajr time. Your city's Ramadan timetable below lists the exact Fajr time for every day of the month.

🌇 Iftar begins at Maghrib time

Break your fast immediately when the Maghrib adhan is called. Sunnah: break with dates and water first, then pray Maghrib, then eat. Exact iftar times for each day are on your city's Ramadan timetable.

 How many rakats is Tarawih?

 20 rakats

 Majority position

Established by Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) with the consensus of the Companions. Followed by the Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali schools. Standard in most mosques worldwide including Masjid al-Nabawi and Masjid al-Haram.

 8 rakats

 Alternative view

Based on the Tahajjud prayer the Prophet ﷺ prayed (Bukhari, Muslim). Held by some contemporary scholars. Both positions have scholarly backing — either is valid to pray in congregation.

Tarawih is prayed after Isha prayer every night of Ramadan. It is a Sunnah Mu'akkadah — highly confirmed Sunnah, not obligatory. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever stands in prayer in Ramadan with faith and seeking reward will have his past sins forgiven." (Bukhari & Muslim)

Witr (3 rakats in Hanafi, 1+ in others) is prayed after Tarawih as the last prayer of the night.

Why is Ramadan treated as the month of the Quran?

"Whoever fasts during Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven." — Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Bukhari & Muslim)

Fasting Ramadan is the Fourth Pillar of Islam

The Quran was first revealed in Ramadan — "The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran" (Quran 2:185)

The gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed throughout Ramadan

The last 10 nights include Laylat al-Qadr — better than 1,000 months (Quran 97:3)

Zakat al-Fitr must be paid before Eid al-Fitr prayer

I'tikaf (spiritual retreat) in the last 10 days is a strong Sunnah

What is Zakat al-Fitr in 2027, and when must it be paid?

Compulsory charity paid before Eid al-Fitr prayer — approximately 2.5–3 kg staple food or cash equivalent

 What is Zakat al-Fitr?

Zakat al-Fitr (Sadaqah al-Fitr) is a compulsory charity on every Muslim — man, woman, young, old, free, and servant — who possesses more than their basic needs. The head of household pays on behalf of all dependants.

Must be paid before the Eid prayer

Equivalent to one sa'a (≈ 2.5–3 kg) of a staple food

Can be paid as cash equivalent to your local mosque/charity

Obligatory on every Muslim able to pay

Approximate amount per person — 2027

🇬🇧 United Kingdom: £5–£10 per person

🇺🇸 United States: $10–$15 per person

 🇨🇦 Canada: CA$15–$20 per person

 🇦🇺 Australia: A$15–$20 per person

🌍 Other countries: cost of one meal for a poor person

Confirm the exact amount with your local mosque or Islamic charity before Ramadan 2027.

What does a typical Ramadan day look like?

🌙 Pre-Fajr: Wake for Suhoor (Sehri) — eat and drink before Fajr adhan begins

🌅 Fajr adhan: Suhoor ends — fast begins. Pray Fajr (2 Sunnah + 2 Fard)

📖 Morning: Recite Quran (aim to complete one juz per day), make dhikr and du'a

☀️ Dhuhr: Pray Dhuhr. Rest if needed — preserve energy for night worship

🌤️ Asr: Pray Asr — make abundant du'a before Iftar; this is an accepted time

🌇 Maghrib adhan: Iftar — break fast with dates and water, say the iftar du'a, then pray Maghrib

🌙 After Isha: Pray Tarawih (20 rakats in congregation is most rewarded) + Witr

⭐ Last 10 nights: Seek Laylat al-Qadr — increase worship, perform I'tikaf if possible

What is the difference between Fidyah and Kaffarah?

Payments for missed fasts and expiation for breaking a fast

💚 Fidyah — for those who cannot fast

For those permanently unable to fast — elderly or chronically ill with no hope of recovery. Paid per missed fast day.

 🇬🇧 UK: £5–£10 per day

 🇺🇸 USA: $10–$15 per day

 🇦🇺 Australia: A$15–$20 per day

⚖️ Kaffarah — for deliberately breaking a fast

For intentionally breaking a fast without valid excuse. Options in order:

Free a slave — no longer applicable

 Fast 60 consecutive days

 Feed 60 poor people (≈ £300–600 / $600–900)

 Ramadan Fasting — Common Questions

Rulings based on the four major Sunni schools of fiqh. Consult your local scholar for individual circumstances.

When does suhoor (sehri) end? + Suhoor ends at the Fajr adhan — when the pre-dawn call to prayer begins. You must stop eating and drinking at this moment. It is Sunnah to delay suhoor as close to Fajr time as possible. Select your city for today's Fajr time.

What time is iftar today? + Iftar begins at the Maghrib adhan — immediately when the sun sets. The time changes every day. It is Sunnah to break the fast promptly when Maghrib begins, starting with dates and water before praying Maghrib.

What is the difference between suhoor, sehri, and sahur? + They are all the same thing — the pre-dawn meal eaten before the Fajr adhan. 'Suhoor' is the Arabic term. 'Sehri' (or 'seheri') is the Urdu/Persian word used in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India. 'Sahur' is used in Turkey and some Arab countries.

Does swallowing toothpaste break the fast? + Yes — if toothpaste is swallowed intentionally, the fast is broken and qada is required. If you brush carefully and spit completely without swallowing, the fast is valid but makruh (disliked). Using miswak is preferable during the fast.

Does vomiting break the fast? + Involuntary vomiting does NOT break the fast. Intentionally inducing vomiting DOES break the fast and qada is required. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever is overcome by vomiting is not required to make it up, but whoever vomits intentionally must make it up.' (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud)

Does using an inhaler break the fast? + Scholars are divided. The majority contemporary position is that a reliever inhaler breaks the fast because a substance enters the lungs. Use your inhaler if medically needed and make qada after Ramadan. Some scholars (Islamic Fiqh Academy) permit inhalers due to medical necessity (darura). Your health comes first.

Who is exempt from fasting in Ramadan? + Those exempt: (1) Children before puberty, (2) The elderly or chronically ill — they pay Fidyah, (3) Travellers — make qada later, (4) Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or menstruating — make qada, (5) Anyone acutely ill — fast when recovered. Fasting is only obligatory on sane, adult Muslims who are physically able.

Does having blood drawn or an injection break the fast? + Injections and blood tests do not break the fast according to the majority of scholars, because nothing edible enters the stomach. IV saline and medication injections are also generally considered not to break the fast. IV nutrition drips would break the fast.

What is Laylat al-Qadr and when is it in Ramadan 2027? + Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Power) is the most blessed night of the year — better than 1,000 months (Quran 97:3). In Ramadan 2027, the most likely nights are the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th of Ramadan (28 Feb 2027 – 8 Mar 2027, subject to moon sighting). Recite often: Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni.
