It serves the town's Muslim community and is run principally by people of Bangladeshi heritage, with services and instruction offered in Bengali (Bangla) and English. Its governing constitution was adopted on 25 July 1999 and the charity was entered on the Charity Commission register on 17 July 2000, with the constitution subsequently amended in 2000, 2008 and 2011.
