The premises were purchased by local Muslim elders in the early 1980s and converted into a mosque in 1983, making it one of the longest-established and largest mosques in the south west of England. The congregation is of mixed origins with a Pakistani majority, and the mosque follows the Sunni Hanafi Barelwi tradition. It serves the diverse, densely populated Easton area and is a member of the Council of Bristol Mosques. As a registered charity (no. 1174320) its purposes are to advance Islam and provide Islamic education and community welfare for local residents. In 2017 the mosque was significantly enlarged with a two-storey courtyard extension, crowned by a distinctive transparent dome illuminated with green light in the evenings; the design has won the Bristol Civic Society Design Award. A dedicated Sisters' section opened in July 2023, and the mosque received the National Beacon Mosques Award 2023. It also runs community projects including MACSAD support sessions for elders.
