About Masjid Al-Markaz Al-Islami

Masjid Al-Markaz Al-Islami was built between 1994 and 1996 under the initiative of former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, a native of South Sulawesi. The mosque is modelled on the Grand Mosque in Mecca and is the central hub for Islamic activity in eastern Indonesia, hosting education programmes, Quranic studies, and serving as a regional Islamic centre.
