About Glasgow Central Mosque

Glasgow Central Mosque, on the south bank of the River Clyde in the Gorbals, was officially opened in 1984 and remains the largest and most iconic mosque in Scotland. The mosque combines traditional Islamic architecture — a large central dome and slender minaret in red sandstone and brick — with the riverside setting of the city centre.

It is the main hub for the Scottish Muslim community, hosting some of the largest Jumu'ah and Eid congregations in the country, with worshippers travelling in from across Glasgow, Lanarkshire and beyond. Alongside the main prayer hall it houses a women's section, a teaching block, a library, the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society and a long-running marriage and bereavement service.
