History of Grande Mosquée de Paris
The Grande Mosquée de Paris was inaugurated in 1926 by President Gaston Doumergue and Sultan Yusef of Morocco, built as a tribute to the 100,000 North African Muslims who died fighting for France in the First World War. Designed in Hispano-Moorish style by architects Robert Fournez and Maurice Tranchant de Lunel, it features a minaret rising 33 metres above the Latin Quarter. The complex includes a prayer hall, madrasa, library, hammam, and a famous café and restaurant that are open to the public.
