What is Namaz?

Namaz (نماز) is the Persian and Urdu/Turkish word for Salah (صلاة) — the Islamic ritual prayer performed five times a day. It is the Second Pillar of Islam and is obligatory on every adult Muslim. The five prayers are Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (midday), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (night).

The word "Namaz" is used primarily in South Asia (Pakistan, Bangladesh, India) and Turkey, while "Salah" or "Salat" is the Arabic Quranic term used worldwide. Both refer to the same obligatory daily prayer established as the Second Pillar of Islam.
