About Masjid Sultan Suriansyah
Masjid Sultan Suriansyah marks the arrival of Islam in Kalimantan. Built by Pangeran Samudera (later Sultan Suriansyah) around 1526, it stands on the Sungai Kuin — a historic trade route. Constructed from ulin (ironwood), its layered Banjar roof and carvings reflect a unique Malay-Banjar Islamic architecture unlike Java or Sumatra.
