How to observe Mawlid
Send abundant salawat
Recite "Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad" and other forms of salawat throughout the day — the simplest and most beloved way to honour the Prophet ﷺ.
Learn his Seerah
Read or listen to accounts of his life in Makkah and Madinah. Focus on his patience, honesty, and care for the weak.
Give charity (sadaqah)
Many Muslims give extra charity on Mawlid, following the Prophetic example of generosity.
Teach children
Share age-appropriate stories of the Prophet ﷺ as a shepherd, merchant, and mercy to all creation.
Why Mawlid matters
Allah says in the Quran: "Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example." (33:21) The Prophet ﷺ was sent as a mercy to the worlds — his birth marked the beginning of the final revelation and the perfection of character for all humanity.
"Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times." — reported in Muslim
Scholars have differed on specific public celebrations, but remembering the Prophet ﷺ, increasing salawat, and studying his life are practices rooted in love and gratitude — not innovation in faith, but renewal of connection to the best of creation.
