History of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was commissioned by the late UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who envisioned a structure that would unite the cultural diversity of the Islamic world. Completed in 2007, it is one of the largest mosques in the world, with a capacity for over 40,000 worshippers. Its 82 domes, 1,000 columns of white Macedonian marble, and the world's largest hand-knotted carpet (9,000 sq metres) make it an unparalleled architectural achievement.
