About High Wycombe Mosque & Islamic Centre
The central mosque at 34 Jubilee Road is run by the Wycombe Islamic Mission & Mosque Trust Ltd (WIMMT), a registered charity (no. 1169492) and a company (no. 01704365). The Muslim community in High Wycombe traces its organised worship to the 1960s, when communal prayers were first held in a local house. As families settled during the 1970s, a permanent site was acquired on Jubilee Road for prayer, learning and recitation of the Qur'an, and by 1981 the mosque had been rebuilt to modern standards to serve the growing congregation.
WIMMT today operates as an umbrella organisation overseeing four mosques across the town: the central Jubilee Road mosque, Castlefield mosque (85 Rutland Avenue, HP12 3JQ), Townfield House / Totteridge mosque (34 Totteridge Road, HP13 6EB) and Micklefield mosque (Centre Approach, HP13 7FY). The branch mosques are linked to the central mosque and are staffed by resident imams who provide prayers, teaching and guidance.
The community served is predominantly of South Asian heritage, particularly families with origins in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan and Bangladesh, along with their descendants and a number of converts. Most worshippers follow traditional Sunni Islam of the Hanafi school, and the trust states that it welcomes Muslims from all branches of Islam.
Alongside the five daily prayers, the mosque runs extensive education and community work, including Qur'an/Qur'an Academy classes, Hifdh (memorisation) and Tajweed classes, adult and youth courses, school visits, a community kitchen, sports programmes, Eid gatherings, and matrimonial (Nikah) and funeral services. The charity's registered objects include advancing the Islamic religion, advancing inter-faith relations, and relieving poverty, sickness and hardship.
