History of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi
Al-Masjid an-Nabawi was founded by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself in 622 CE, shortly after the Hijra from Mecca. It was originally a simple structure, but has undergone many expansions over the centuries. The current mosque can accommodate over one million worshippers and is one of the largest in the world. The Rawdah — the area between the Prophet's ﷺ pulpit and his tomb — is described as a garden from the gardens of Paradise.
