About Lewisham Islamic Centre

Lewisham Islamic Centre began in the late 1970s when a small group of Muslims, led by Dr Saleem, gathered for Friday prayers at a house on Bellingham Road. Originally named the "Lewisham & Kent Islamic Centre," it established itself on Brownhill Road in Catford — the first mosque in the area — for around twenty years before moving to its current premises at 363-365 Lewisham High Street in 2000. Today it is a registered charity (no. 1187279) serving the Muslim community of the London Borough of Lewisham and surrounding areas, hosting nearly 2,000 worshippers at Friday prayers alongside daily Quran and Arabic classes, a funeral fund, youth club and other community services.
